Kettle Trophy Round 3.1 Results and League Table

It was a long walk out to the car and an even longer drive home to Balerno is all I'm saying.  DIfficult really, when the occupants had managed to score three shots in total in 15 ends of curling.  It would have been OK if the opposition teams had each scored nothing.  Sadly though, 14 and 11 shots told a different story.  We cheered each other up by talking about the Scotland v Slovakia game, then realised that we had lost that as well.  I mentioned that in the Gunn v Munro (skipped by Copland) clash, we had managed eight ends of curling.  As a wiser man than I once remarked, if you're going to lose, lose fast!"  This seemed somehow irrelevant.

Big win for Brian Fleming and his merry band who move onto four points and are now really in the mix.  Six ends helps as well.  Big win also for Niall Gunn, who hauled himself from the bottom of the table to fourth place with an emphatic team performance, in which Andrew Galloway (in only his second game this season), Rowena Steven and Eilidh Yeats all played their part.  Seven ends will do Niall's cause no harm either if it comes to ends at the back end of the competition.

Here are the results

Team 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
F A E F A E F A E F A E F A E F A E F A E F A E
Gunn N       3 4 2 3 4 3 14 2 7
Steven J 4 3 4       1 11 1 12 2 5
Fleming B 4 3 4 11 1 6       5 7 4
Munro D 2 14 1 2 12 2 7 5 3
Wood K                               7 6 4 5 12 2
Barr B                         6 7 3       3 6 2
Kesley S                         12 5 5             5 4 4
Barr J                               6 3 5 4 5 3

And here is the resultant league table

Position Team Played Ends Shots u/(d) Shots scored Points
1 Fleming B 3 14 9 20 4
2 Steven J 3 10 1 17 4
3 Kesley S 2 9 8 17 4
4 Gunn N 3 12 10 20 2
5 Barr J 2 8 2 10 2
6 Wood K 2 6 -6 12 2
7 Munro D 3 6 -20 11 2
8 Barr B 2 5 -4 9 0

Least said, soonest mended.

Interestingly, for students of the game, there does remain one undefeated team - namely Susan Kesley's.

Funny old game.  All to play for.  One game at a time.  Sometimes you have to lose to learn how to win.  It's the taking part that counts.

Yada, yada!
