Lymphoy Trophy Results and League Table Round 6

What a night, results-wise!  The two leading teams, Copland and Kesley hiccupped and Brian Fleming had a big win over arch-rival, John Steven.  Here is the latest score grid.

The league table has a slightly different feel to it this late Friday evening and three teams remain in contention for the Lymphoy Trophy with one round to go.

Susan plays Shona, who has the opportunity, should she win the game to cement her place in the top half of the table.  If Susan wins, then she will be in poll position as she has a big ends advantage over Brian, but if she loses or draws...  Well, Brian has to beat Dave Munro; he would move to 11 points and win the league.

Robin plays Andrew Galloway.  He can win his game and come first, second or third, depending on what happens in the other two games.  Potentially, he could come fourth as well - if he loses heavily and Shona wins three ends more than he does.  Andrew is six ends behind, so if he grannies team Copland, then mathematically, he could overtake him as well; that would be fifth.  In that circumstance, if John thumps Jenny, then team Copland could end up in sixth place.  Good grief!

Lymphoy Trophy Results and League Table Round 5

First of all, here is the results grid from last week.  Good wins (in two of their absences) for team Grandparents with Mike Wood, Rowena Steven, John Penny and Tasha Aitken seeing off the challenge of the Dave Munro team (again skipped by Norman in Dave's absence).

But positively brilliant win for Susan Kesley, Katie Wood, Morna Aitken and substitute Agnes/ Annie Barr against near-rivals, team Steven, with another substitute A Barr at lead.  It was one or other, if you see what I mean.  Suffice to say that one's a granny and the other's just got engaged.  Work it out for yourselves.  Oh - and another chap called J Irwin.  No idea.  But welcome to the club.

Brian Fleming kept his challenge alive with a good win over Andrew Galloway, who also has an A Barr in his team, but this is Andrew and I know that.

OK, so the general point would be something along these lines: the next time anybody by the name of Barr is planning a family, could they please name the weans Brian or Catriona or David or Edward (ooh - that's a good name for a curler) but not Alice or Agnieszka.  Just saying.

Jenny (that would be a J then) lost her game to Shona.

Right.  League table looks like this.

Position Team Played Ends Shots u/(d) Shots scored Points
1 S Kesley 5 24 13 34 9
2 R Copland 5 24 31 46 8
3 B Fleming 5 20 11 41 7
4 J Steven 5 19 6 30 6
5 S Watt 5 19 0 31 4
6 A Galloway 5 17 -8 36 4
7 J Barr 5 11 -23 23 2
8 D Munro 5 10 -30 14 0

Both Robin and Susan have Andrew Galloway and Shona Watt to play.  If they win both their remaining games, then they come first and second in the league.  Both are well placed on ends won as well.  Brian has John Steven and Dave Munro to play.  Next week's game between John and Brian is significant.  If John wins, he leapfrogs Brian to 8 points - still very much in the hunt if the top two drop points.  He could still win the competition outright.  So could Brian.  The winner of the league comes from those four teams.

What about Shona and Andrew, both of whom play Susan and Robin?  Let's postulate that those two win both their remaining games.  They would move onto 8 points each - equal with Robin.  It would then be down to ends and they are, respectively five and seven ends behind him - so that's a bit of an ask.  In that circumstance, let's assume that John wins both his games and that Brian loses both his games, then John wins the league and Susan comes second.  If John wins both his games and Brian wins his other game (against Dave), then John would finish on 10 points and Brian on 9.  Then it would be down to ends as to whether or not Brian could overtake Susan and beat her to the runners-up prize - assuming that she has lost her remaining two games.

Oh - there's so much that could go right/ wrong, depending on whose side your bread is currently buttered.

And now, we have to talk briefly about Jenny and Dave.

An aged and lone gunman walks slowly onto the deserted street, cigar drooping from his mustachioed mouth.  He looks slowly around him as a single ball of tumbleweed blows lazily by, but there is nobody there.  No challenger.  He slowly holsters his gun and ambles off into the middle distance dragging his once proud feet.  The town has gone and left him far behind; his work is over; he's yesterday's man and tomorrow's vagrant.  There is nothing more to be said or done.

The shorter version of which would be...

Goosed.
