In the first round of the Lymphoy Cup on Friday night, Robin Copland and his merry women took on the Fleming-less Mike Wood and his team; a combination of some admittedly good play from Pauline, Morna and Shona and a couple of lucky rubs at opportune times enabled them to sit pretty at the top of the table after a six ends to two win and a 10-5 scoreline.
Mike would never forgive me if I did not mention a brave and well-executed shot in the eighth end with his last stone; he came through the narrowest of narrow ports and played a great promoted take out to lie three.
Susan Kesley was helping herself to similar largesse from Andrew Barr - one of my earlier tips for glory; sorry Andrew! - with a useful five ends and a 10-8 scoreline.
Defending skip Andrew Galloway won only three ends in his match against John Steven, but came away with two points and a winning score of 8-6 and finally Katie Wood just had the better of Jenny Barr - again the losing skip winning more ends than the victor.
So the table looks like this.
Position | Team | Played | Ends | Shots u/(d) | Shots scored | Points |
1 | Copland | 1 | 6 | 5 | 10 | 2 |
2 | Kesley | 1 | 5 | 2 | 10 | 2 |
3 | Galloway | 1 | 3 | 2 | 8 | 2 |
4 | Wood K | 1 | 3 | 1 | 8 | 2 |
5 | Steven | 1 | 5 | -2 | 6 | 0 |
6 | Barr J | 1 | 4 | -1 | 7 | 0 |
7 | Barr A | 1 | 3 | -2 | 8 | 0 |
8 | Fleming | 1 | 2 | -5 | 5 | 0 |
All to play for and three out of the four games got their eight ends in - a good start to the competition!
