Lymphoy Round 6 Complete - 13th March

 The conclusion of the Lymphoy Cup 2026 is nearly upon us and what a competition it has been!

 The final 4 teams to complete Round 6 took to the ice on the 13th of March, and with 2 teams in contention for winning the main prize, it was an exciting night.

Team Barr were on 6 points and in 4th spot before, but a win over Galloway means they jump to 8 points, matching Team Clark.

Team Steven had a decisive win over Team Wood taking them to the top with 9 points.

So...here is my take on how the competition could be won (similar to the methods in which Scotland could have won the Six Nations, if we'd only beaten Ireland!):

Steven wins his final game - He wins the Lymphoy.

Barr wins her final game (against Steven!), and Clark loses - She wins the Lymphoy.

Clark wins her final game, and Barr ties the game - It will come down to ends as she will be matched points with Steven. And as it stands, there are only 3 ends in it! 

Its going to be an interesting final session, and one my team could probably sit out (we won't, we might come 4th, a shock after being on the bottom for a good number of weeks!)

Lymphoy Round 6.25 - 6th March

 Clark's bid for the Lymphoy is very much alive, and Munro is moving up the ranks!

Clark had a very decisive win over Fleming (skipped by Shona Watt), with a six in the first end proving very difficult to come back. This puts Clark back on the top, but doesn't mean she's locked it in yet!

Munro had a good win over Marshall, with some very difficult ends with lots of thinking! This jumps Munro right up to 3rd (although too many loses will make it very unlikely to win any cups!)

Lymphoy Round 5 complete - 27th February

 Well, Round 5 has set up a race for the title! And a less appealing race for the wooden spoon...

Munro had a very close game against Galloway, winning by taking a 3 in the 4th end and then the 7th, giving her her 2nd win.

Steven went up against Clark (skipped by Joe Barry after Kerry and Sarah, the skip and third, had subs). Despite getting a couple of 2s later in the game, Stevens 3 in the third end really set them up for the win, and a 3 in the 5th end sealed that win.

Lymphoy Round 5.25 - 20th February

 Apologies for the delay in posting results!

Good wins from Jenny Barr and Brian Fleming's teams mean a bit of a shake up on the table. This competition is very close this year!

Lymphoy Round 4 Complete - 13th February

 The last four rinks to complete round 4 took to the ice on Friday the 13th (spooky!), and with 6 subs out of 16 players, it was an interesting night!

John Steven's team were the only team out with all original members (Morag and Sheena have been sharing a rink) and they won their game comfortably against Karen Munro's team, who had two juniors playing lead and second (they played very well!)

Joe Barry was the only original member of Kerry Clark's team. They had a very close game against Andrew Galloway's team, which was skipped by Morna, and Kerry's team came out on top by 1 point!

Kerry and John's wins have shuffled the league table about a bit, with Kerry on top and John sitting in second with Jen a close third!

Lymphoy Round 4.5 - 6th February

 On the 6th of February, the first 4 teams to play the 4th round took to the ice.

Katie Wood's team took on the current leaders, Jen Marshall, and came up on top with a dominant 8 - 2 win.

On the other sheet, Brian Fleming's team took on Jenny Barr's team and managed to secure his first victory with a decisive 12 - 2 win (taking a 6 in the 6th end!).

Lymphoy Round 3 complete - 30th January

 Round 3 is now complete with teams Barr, Wood, Clark and Munro (all female skips!) taking to the ice on Friday.

 It wasn't to be for Team Wood (Skipped by Andrew Barr) or Team Munro with some big loses. I'm going to blame the ice...

With the completion of round 3, still out on top by 1 point is Team Marshall, who have yet to lose a game. There are a few teams close on her heels though!

Points Competition 2026

Wouldn't you just love to have been at the meeting, probably at the Riccarton, where Currie Curling Club members, David Cunningham of Harlaw, Robert Palmer the local dominie, and Dr Somerville, the minister at Currie Kirk, first got together and said to themselves, "Let's invent a skills-based game to judge who is the best individual curler on a given day!" Out of that meeting came the Points game that we know and love to this day.  Hopefully, Dr Somerville cleared a wee path for the other two so that they were looking down and not up on Friday 16th January at the latest iteration of the C&B Points Competition.

Eleven club members gathered at Curl Edinburgh after the Friday night league game, and after having enjoyed excellent refreshment, courtesy of Embo Catering.  Eleven, it turns out, is a good number for a points competition on two sheets of ice, as it enabled us to get seven of the ten points disciplines covered.  We all had four attempts each at striking, inwicking, drawing, guarding, chap and lie, wick in and raising.  By far the most difficult of the disciplines turned out to inwicking where, out of a possible total number of points on offer of 88 (2 points per attempt), the combined group only managed to score 13 points!  Conversely, the easiest discipline was striking where the total score was 60/88.  We managed to get pass marks at drawing (55/88), and for the rest, the group was middle of the road - high 30s to low 40s.

Individually there were some good scores.  In the overall competition, Robin scored 35 points for 3rd place, Andrew 36 points for runner-up spot, but the overall winner with a commendable 37 points was Niall Gunn.  The women's competition ended up in a tie with Kerry and Jennifer both scoring 32 points; they agreed to share the trophy this year, rather than have a play-off.

Great fun was had by one and all and there was a sociable gather-up of competitors in the bar afterwards, where Club President Kerry Clark announced the scores and congratulated the winners.

Lymphoy Round 3.5 - 23rd January

 The first split evening of the Lymphoy took place on Friday the 23rd, Team Fleming taking on Team Steven and Team Marshall taking on Team Galloway.

Some big ends exchanged in the Marshall vs Galloway game, with each team scoring a 4, but it was the 5 that Team Marshall got in the 5th end that really sealed the deal and gave Jen the win.

The other game was a bit more subdued with the highest scoring being a 2 in one end, however a run of 4 ends gave Team Steven the win.

Lymphoy Round 2 - 16th January

 Round 2 of the Lymphoy Cup has really shaken everything up (well, as much as it can do 2 games in!).

Almost every team that lost a game the week before won their game this week.

Lymphoy Round 1 - 9th January

 Currie and Balerno were back on the ice on the 9th of January. It was great to see everyone back out on the ice and some fantastic games were held.

Jen Marshall had a very close game against Brian Fleming, with Jen managing to score a 2 in the last end to take the win.

A run 2 score ends meant that Andrew Galloway took the win over John Steven.

A big score of a 5 in the 6th end sealed the deal for Jenny Barr with a win over Katie Wood.

Karen Munro had 2 big ends which took her to an 11 - 3 victory over Kerry Clark.
