Currie and Balerno Points Competition 2025

Friday the 17th of January saw highly anticipated points competition get underway. For all the history of the points competition, click on the points tab at the top of the page. 10 brave competitors took on 7 disciplines of varying difficulty (although one persons difficulty could be someone else's strength).

After all the points were added up, our winner was:

Dave Munro - 41 points - He wins the main points trophy

Runner up:

Kerry Clark - 36 points - She is runner up and will also win the Ladies prize too.

In join third were myself and Jen Marshall. We also had someone take part who hadn't curled in over 20 years! Shows how inclusive the points can be!

Lymphoy Cup Round 1.2 and 2.1

Friday the 17th was the first time all 8 teams were out for the Lymphoy and from the looks of the scores, this competition is going to be a close one!

The teams who had already played kept up their impressive run of 8 end games, with Dave Munro and Mike Wood's teams starting their 8th end with 8 minutes left on the clock. Talk about efficiency! Close game as well, Dave needing a 3 to peel but unfortunately only managing a 2 for an 7 - 8 lose. I had a very close game against Kerry's strong team until the 6th end where I ended up losing a 5. The game finished 8 - 6 to Kerry.

The other 4 teams had yet to get going in the Lymphoy and neither sheet managed to make it to 8 ends. Lot to live up to and they couldn't handle the pressure! From the score cards, both seemed like close games, with John Steven and Jen Marshall's game ending in a 5 - 5 draw. On the other sheet, Andrew Galloway took a 3 in the 5th end to put his team in front and Brian was not able to recover.

Anyway, the bit that everyone comes to look at, the league table! At the moment Kerry is out in front with 2 wins but it really is anyones game at the moment!

Lymphoy Cup Round 1

It was a great start to the second competition of the C&B calendar, the Lymphoy Cup, with 4 teams out on Friday night.

In what was a rather exciting turn of events, both sheets managed to play 8 ends, which is a great start (rest of the teams...you have a lot to live up to! Can we get 8 ends in all Round 1 games?), then the winning teams both won 5 ends, winning 6 points each. The losing teams both won 3 ends, ending with 3 points, so the score sheet and league table don't do the games justice.

I had a great time playing against Mike and Katie Wood, especially as My Mum is in my team. Family affair! I had to make some big shots and thankfully I was lucky enough for some of them to come off. Some playful insults given both within and outwith the teams made it a very enjoyable night. Not sure how much fun the other sheet was having but from the sounds of it there was maybe a few more tense shots being played.

Lymphoy Teams and Draw 2025

 Happy New Year Everyone!

With the new year and the completion of the Kettle competition, it can only mean one thing...

The Lymphoy Cup is upon us!

Here are the teams for the Lymphoy Cup 2025:

Here is the draw for the Lymphoy:

Kettle Round 7

Happy new year everyone! I hope everyone had a great Christmas and that Santa brought some fantastic gifts. I was lucky enough to get a new kipper AND some mitts!

All teams were out to finish off the Kettle competition and there were a few ways it could have gone but a win from Karen Munro's team (yours truly), a loss from Brian Fleming's team and a win from Shona Watt's team meant this year:

Winners of the Kettle Trophy: Karen Munro, Josh Kellock, Lois Copland and David Aitken

Winners of the Harlaw Cup: Shona Watt, Dave Munro, Joe Barry and Stuart Ronald

It was also another night for celebrations as past president of the club, last season's Achievement Award winner, and all-around legend Margaret Nicol celebrated her 75th birthday (or her 21st for the 54th time!). With a delicious meal, good chat, and some 'tasteful' cards, it was a birthday to remember. A win on the ice was also a pretty good cherry on top.

Here is the final league table of the 2024/25 Kettle Competition:
