Lymphoy Trophy Results and League Table Round 3.2

Bob Barr, Andrew Barr, Joe Barrie and Pauline Alexander had a good solid win on Friday night against Brian Fleming's team, who remain rooted to the bottom of the table like … like … a tree.  There you are; great analogy.  It was all looking quite good for Brian when he scored a four in the second end of the game to take a 4-1 lead - especially when he held Bob to one shot in the third.  It all went a bit pear-shaped thereafter though, when Bob stole a four in the next end, followed by another steal of one in the fifth.  Swapped ones in ends six and seven secured an 8-5 win for team Bob and, more importantly for them, kept their challenge for the Lymphoy trophy alive and kicking.

In the other game, Jenny Barr eased herself away from towards the bottom of the league table with an interesting win against Robin Copland.  Interesting only because Robin managed to steal a four in end six which took him from a kind of a "down and out in London and Paris - except it was Edinburgh" scenario to an astonishing (if you had been watching the game, it was astonishing!) one-shot lead coming down the last.  Normal service was resumed there however and Jenny managed to get a three on the board to ensure her two points.

Here's the updated results grid and that is immediately followed by the league table with three rounds to go.

The top five teams in the league could all still make a case for themselves for either the Lymphoy Trophy or the Glenbrook, though the Lymphoy looks ever more likely to be fought out between teams Steven, Barr (Bob) and Kesley.  Interestingly, Bob plays John this coming Friday and I imagine that the winner of that game will have improved their chances of silverware no end!  Bob plays Susan in the last round of the competition, so that will be a big game as well. He also has Katie Wood to play.

In addition to Bob, John has Jenny Barr and Robin Copland to play so judging on league positions looks to have the easier run-in.  Susan plays Bob as I have already said, plus Robin Copland and Brian Fleming.

As a wiser man than I once said, "We will fight them on the beaches."

Sorry.  Wrong quote.
