C&B Win the Coronation League - Again!

The Coronation League is a competition that has been running for 66 years.  Currie & Balerno CC's record in the competition is truly remarkable.  In the past 12 years, the club has won the trophy no fewer than 11 times and, in the competition's entire history, the club has won the competition 33 times, reports John Steven, one of this year's team (pictured below).

Substitutes made guest appearances throughout the season and should also therefore be given an honourable mention in this report.  Rowena Steven, Andrew Galloway, Maggie Barry and Mike Wood - congratulations to you as well.

Brilliant performance - many congratulations to all involved.

Lymphoy Trophy Results and League Table Round 5.2

This was the week that Brian Fleming finally got some points on the board, courtesy of a good win against Susan Kesley.  He won five ends in their six-end game as well and there always seemed to be a be a good few stones in play.

Robin, Morna and Lois finally got the better of Anne Anderson, Stuart Ronald, Jennifer Marshall and Louise Wood in what the casual viewer might have described as an interesting game.  The humour levels were going stratospheric amongst six of the players as the seventh struggled to keep himself under control would probably be the best way of drawing a veil over proceedings!

Here's the score grid for the two games tonight.

Team 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
F A E F A E F A E F A E F A E F A E F A E F A E
Susan Kesley       6 5 4 2 9 2 6 3 4 6 3 4       2 7 1
Shona Watt 5 6 3       7 9 4 7 7 3       5 6 4       4 6 4
John Steven 9 2 5 9 7 4       7 2 5       10 6 4 9 2 5
Katie Wood 3 6 3 7 7 4 2 7 2       7 5 4             6 6 4
Jenny Barr 3 6 3             5 7 3       6 9 2 8 5 4 8 5 4
Bob Barr       6 5 3 6 10 4       9 6 5       8 5 5 5 5 5
Brian Fleming 7 2 5       2 9 2       5 8 3 5 8 2       2 11 2
Robin Copland       6 4 3       6 6 3 5 8 3 5 5 3 11 2 5

The league table has become interesting.  With two rounds of games left, it is fair to say that the Lymphoy Trophy will be won by either John or Bob.  Why?  They both have a massive ends advantage over Susan and Robin.  Even if John were to lose both his remaining games (against Jenny and Robin), the chances are that his ends total would still be enough.

Bob Barr finds himself one point ahead of both Susan and Robin but still has Susan to play in the last round.  He plays Katie Wood in the first of his two remaining games.  If he wins his two remaining games and John loses his last two games, he would overtake John to lift the trophy.

Robin and Susan both have interesting run-ins; they play each other next week and then Robin plays John Steven in his last game, while Susan plays Bob!  The winner of next week's game is still in the hunt for a trophy, but the loser will be struggling.

As for the rest...?  The wind scudded through the ghost town; no one heard the sad keening as it whistled through the gaps in the old and dilapidated fences; no one saw the loose wooden slats flapping and banging or heard the sand scudding over the pavements.  No one cared.  Nature did its work and the world moved on.  Oblivious.

Anyhow, my brain's hurting, so we'll leave it there!  Here's the table.
