Looking at the league table, Niall needs to beat Susan Kesley and score at least four ends to overtake Dave. His shots-up total is way behind though, so he would need to win by 11 shots to draw equal on shots-up and score more than 11 shots in his game to overtake Dave and co; or win five or more ends, of course.
With the best will in the world, John Steven has an almost impossibly high mountain to climb if he is going to win the Kettle. He is seven ends behind Dave. Perhaps his best chance for a trophy is to hope that Niall loses his game. Then a draw or a win against Mike Wood's team will be enough for John to win the Harlaw Cup. If Niall draws his game, then a win for John will do it.
His chances for the Kettle? Think snow and Mount Etna. All I'm saying.
Till next week, then!
