Kettle Trophy Results and League Table Round 5

Well here's a thing: after Friday's round of games, there are only three teams left in contention for the Kettle trophy itself, namely Susan Kesley (10 points and undefeated), John Steven (6 points) and Brian Fleming (6 points).  There are two rounds left to play, so Susan can win the trophy outright if she manages at least a draw in one of her next two games - but here's the rub; they're tough games!  You can see from the grid below that she has Niall Gunn and John Steven to face.  John is still in contention, so he will be up for the game.  Niall is still in contention for the Harlaw Cup.

John plays Susan and Jenny Barr and Brian plays Katie Wood and Bob Barr.

Last Friday there were three tight games - Niall and Bob drew their game,  Lois Copland (playing at skip instead of John) had a tight win over Raymond Preston (skipping in the absence of Katie Wood) and Susan had a narrow win (despite the scoreline) over Dave Munro - a steal of 3 in the last end putting a lovely gloss on things for the Kesley team, as well as securing the all-important end.  Brian had a big win against Jenny Barr.

So, let's look at the league table.

Position Team Played Ends Shots u/(d) Shots scored Points
1 Kesley S 5 23 20 40 10
2 Fleming B 5 22 12 33 6
3 Steven J 5 16 -8 26 6
4 Gunn N 5 19 12 31 5
5 Wood K 5 18 -1 29 4
6 Barr J 5 16 -7 23 4
7 Barr B 5 16 1 30 3
8 Munro D 5 11 -29 20 2

It's fair to say that Dave and his merry band are goosed and Bob Barr is not too far behind them in the alternative Christmas bird stakes.  As far as the Harlaw Cup is concerned, you can make a case for the teams on four points, though realistically, they are all ends down compared to Brian, so have to overtake him on points to have a chance.  Brian has other fish to fry though and he will still fancy his chances for the big prize if Susan slips up in her last two games.

The fat lady ain't singing just yet, but she's warming up in the background...
