Another Swan Trophy Success for C&B!

Make no mistake!  This is one of the main competitions at Murrayfield and it can trace its history right back to the opening of Haymarket (the curling rink, not the station!).  Swans mart used to be hard beside the Haymarket station and a hundred years ago it moved from there to a greenfield site at Slateford.  The company presented the new rink with a trophy and the rest, as a wise person once said, is history.

Currie and Balerno CC continued its remarkable run of success in the competition with another victory, this time over Oxenfoord in a closely-fought final.  Here is Katie Wood's report.

Currie and Balerno CC continued its remarkable run into 2020 when we retained the Swan Trophy on 30th January.  Our two rinks took on Oxenfoord's finest.

Kerry Clark skipped one rink with Betty Gibb, Maggie Barry and John Steven (Lois Copland played in the first round) and the second rink was skipped by Brian Fleming with  Katie Wood, Joe Barry and David Hogg (with President Susan Kesley skipping the first round instead of Brian).

One of the beauties of the Swan is that it is a team competition with two teams representing each club.  It is the aggregate number of shots that determines the winners.  In fact, Brian's team narrowly lost their game in the final, but the fact that Kerry and her team smashed it secured the win and meant that the cup came home yet again.

Four years in a row!
