Niall Gunn So Close in the Scottish Pairs Championship

Niall, along with Nigel Patrick competed in the Scottish Pairs Championship in Stranraer at the weekend, getting all the way to the final, before losing to Euan and Stewart Kyle.  Euan, of course, played lead in the Ross Whyte team that came so close in the recent World Junior Championships in Aberdeen.

Niall reports on the event in his own words...

Nigel Patrick and I lost the final of the Scottish Pairs Championship at the weekend.  Euan and Stewart Kyle's combined ages were certainly less than mine and probably Nigel's too!

It was a tough competition with a lot of good players on show.  We lost our first game, which didn't help, but wins over Doug Wilson, Luke Carson and Frazer Hare on the Saturday put us through to the quarter-final, where we had a good win against the defending champions, William Smith and Wallace Gilbert from Greenacres.  We celebrated that win in the bar with a game of short curling - the whole "Short Curling" event being won by Nigel!

In the semi-final, we had a relatively easy win against Scott Hamilton from Lockerbie before losing the final to the unbeaten Kyle brothers.

Thanks to Niall for his report on a great weekend in which they were all well looked after by McMillan Hotels.
