It's the Young Guns Again at the Points!

Rebecca Kesley is the Points Queen!

For the first time in ten years (Kerry Barr won the competition in 2003), a lady member of the club has won the points trophy with an admirable 34 points out of seven disciplines.  She follows young Gavin Barr as a first-time winner of the competition, which now boasts an impressive array of talented young curlers - all of whom have their names on the trophy.  According to secret C & B blog reporter, club secretary Jenny Barr, the competition was a close-run thing, with John Steven in second with 33 points and Jenny herself third with 32.

Well done to all 12 competitors who went off with about twenty minutes to go before the 7.30 club session for a well-deserved and warming bowl of soup.  That last bit was just to add a wee bit of colour.  The devil, as a wiser man than I once remarked, is in the details.

The wheels came aff team JCB on Friday at the hands of the quiet assassin, Shona Watt.  Jenny remains in top spot, but Shona is right behind on five points and has a crucial game in hand.

The Fleming-less Team Fleming, with Lois Copland at skip in his absence, managed a draw against Niall Gunn who finds himself in uncharted territory in the bottom half of the league.  Mind you, he's in good company!  Messrs Munro and Steven and president Wood have all been higher up a C and B league table than where they are right now.  To be fair - that's not hard; not hard at all.

All to play for!

Sadie Anderson 2013

From left, Jenny, Katie, Susan and Fran

Four bright young things - also members of Currie and Balerno - travelled down to deepest, darkest Ayrshire, where it is very wet and the natives speak with an altogether funny accent, there to compete in the rink's premier ladies competition, the Sadie Anderson.

Jenny, who looks bemused in the picture - probably because she realises that she is about to be lynched by a hatchet mob for winning the competition and NOT coming from deepest, darkest Ayrshire, takes up the story.

The Sadie Anderson was run as a schenkel over four confirmed games, with no knock-out semis or final.  We won our first three games so were in the 1 v 2 game which was actually peeled against Margaret Agnew (nee Morton).  We were the only undefeated team, so it was enough for us to secure the win.

For those who do not know Maggie Morton, she played third to Rhona Martin the year that Rhona won the Scottish and was instrumental in securing Rhona the GB berth at the Salt Lake City Olympic Games.  She was fifth player in the squad that brought back the gold medal, so beating her was quite a coup for our intrepid quartet!

Early days yet in the great scheme of things, but Jenny on four out of four is looking good and her third is an exceptionally handsome chap to boot!

Thanks to Raymond, by the way, for taking on the duties of official scorer.  What a man!
